The psychological scars left by their harrowing experiences required patient care and understanding.
But through the dedication of their caregivers, Atlas, Queen, and Luladja began to recover, showing the indomitable spirit of survival.
Finding a forever home for adult lions is a daunting task, fraught with challenges. Yet, with the help of the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), a sanctuary was found in France. This was not just any refuge, but a place within a French zoo designed to mimic their natural habitat as closely as possible, offering them "apartments" spanning five hectares where they could roam, rest, and play in safety.
The journey to their new home was an adventure in itself, involving careful planning and coordination. The lions were transferred to another vehicle at the "Domazhyr" bear rehabilitation center, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the journey to Europe. This meticulous process underscores the commitment and collaboration between various organizations dedicated to animal welfare.
Today, Atlas, Queen, and Luladja are settling into their new environment, where they are provided with the care and respect they deserve. Their new home is equipped with everything they need to live out their days in comfort and peace, far removed from the sounds of war that once filled their lives with fear.
As we celebrate the new beginnings of Atlas, Queen, and Luladja, we are reminded of the ongoing needs of other large cats still awaiting their turn for a better life. Supporting these efforts ensures that more animals like them can find sanctuary and peace.
